CGCC Hosts U.S. – China Governors Collaboration Summit featured image

From May 22nd to May 24th, China General Chamber of Commerce-USA (CGCC) co-hosted the annual U.S.- China Governors Collaboration Summit with the National Governors Association (NGA), Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), and  Kentucky Commonwealth Cabinet for Economic Development (Think Kentucky) in Lexington, Kentucky.

The Summit brought together over 400 senior sub-national government officials and business leaders from the U.S. and China, including representatives from CGCC member companies: Bank of China, ICBC, China Telecom Americas, China Investment Corporation (CIC), Liepin North America, EY, J.P. Morgan, Lennar International, and Plante Moran.

Held over three days, the Summit convened U.S. and Chinese government officials and business leaders to discuss trade and diplomatic relations, educational and cultural exchanges, e-commerce, and infrastructure investment.


Matt Bevin, Governor of Kentucky

American governors and lieutenant governors: Matt Bevin, Governor of Kentucky; Bill Lee, Governor of Tennessee, Lieutenant Governors Cyrus Habib of Washington; Dianne Primavera of Colorado, and Garlin Gilchrist of Michigan participated in the Summit.

Governor Guozhong Liu of Shaanxi province, Mayor Liangzhi Tang of Chongqing and Vice Governors Zhongqiong Wu of Jiangxi province, and Shizhen Zhang of Gansu province led the delegation of Chinese government officials to the Summit.


Tiankai Cui, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China 

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the United States of America Tiankai Cui welcomed participants to the Summit.

“It’s more important than ever that sub-national representatives from China and the United States get together to explore cooperation and win-win opportunities that benefit us all,” expressed Cui.

“Let’s work together to energize the long-term development of U.S.-China relations.”

Terry Brandstad, U.S. Ambassador to China, also gave welcoming remarks at the Summit’s opening ceremony through a video greeting.

“In only 40 years of diplomatic ties we have come so far,” said CGCC Chairman Chen Xu, President & CEO of Bank of China USA. “And I am confident that over the next 40 years we will go even further.”

At the event, CGCC launched an interactive one-stop-shop (www.cgccusa.org/en/ed-guide/) to help its member companies navigate through each state’s investment and regulatory environment and hosted two panel discussions, “Advanced Manufacturing, Infrastructure, and Investment” and “E-Commerce and Cross-Border Trade”.
