CGCC and CGCC Members Attend Birmingham International Center 2015 Spotlight on China Event

January 22nd and 23rd, 2015 – China General Chamber of Commerce – U.S.A. and numerous member companies attended the 2015 Spotlight on China, a two-day event hosted by the Birmingham International Center in Birmingham, Alabama. The event featured Chinese Ambassador to the United States Ambassador Cui Tiankai, Secretary of the Alabama Department of Commerce Greg Canfield, Consul General for China-Houston Li Qiangmin, and President of the Birmingham Chinese Business Association Harry He, among many others.

Executives from CGCC member companies who attended included China Construction America, Inc. Vice President Zhigang Wu, Sinopec USA Rep. Office Chief Representative Sujuan He, Ernst & Young Partner Xiaoqing Zhang, East West Bank Vice President of Commercial Relations Haiying Wang, East West Bank Senior Vice President Esau Liu, Pacific Rim Security Marketing Manager Karen Lauer, and CGCC Executive Director Candice Niu, among others.

The Birmingham International Center spotlights a different country each year, producing programs and activities designed to build greater cultural understanding. The 2015 Spotlight on China will bolster cultural, educational and business ties between Alabama and China.

“The Birmingham International Center’s efforts help us develop a greater understanding, not only of the global society, but of our roles in it,” said Lee Styslinger III, Chairman and CEO of Altec Inc., and chair of the 2015 Spotlight on China. “Whether in the classroom or in business development, the more we know of each other, the fewer barriers we see. Altec is proud to be involved with an initiative that strengthens Alabama’s ties with China and illustrates the significance of international business for our state.”

The Ambassador’s Dinner on the night of January 22nd was followed up by a full day Business Roundtable on January 23rd. Chinese Consulate General in Houston Li Qiangmin lead the business summit, which served as a forum for exploring new opportunities and challenges that coincide with international business development. The four industry sectors that were discussed included automotive, agricultural, aviation, and energy.
