CGCC Supported the 7th China International Import Expo and Hongqiao International Economic Forum U.S. Promotion Conference featured image

On May 8th 2024, China General Chamber of Commerce - USA (CGCC)  supported The 7th China International Import Expo and Hongqiao International Economic Forum in New York.  The event, which was hosted by the China International Import Expo Bureau, attracted nearly 150 companies and institutions, including member companies of CGCC, for an insightful discussion on the opportunities presented by the CIIE and Sino-US economic and trade cooperation.

Consul General of the Chinese Consulate General in New York, Ping HUANG, delivered an impassioned speech, emphasizing that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States 45 years ago, bilateral economic and trade cooperation has generally moved forward despite ups and downs. The CIIE, as the best example of win-win cooperation, promotes the import of high-quality goods and services from the United States and meets the growing needs of the Chinese people. Consul General HUANG expressed hope that more American companies will continue to make full use of the CIIE to enjoy China's vast consumer market and achieve mutual benefit.

Chenghai SUN, Deputy Director General of the China International Import Expo Bureau, made an comprehensive introduction on the pragmatic results of the sixth CIIE and the preparation progress of the seventh CIIE. Since its inception in 2018, the United States has ranked first in terms of total area of exhibitors, with the large number of participating American companies serving as a vivid reflection of China's global propositions, wisdom, and solutions.

Deputy Director General SUN highlighted the U.S. Department of Agriculture's cooperation with the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai at the 6th CIIE, which sent a signal of healthy opening for agricultural and food trade between China and the United States. He encouraged more American companies to actively participate in the CIIE, engage in communication, and introduce more high-quality specialty products, technologies, and services to the Chinese and global markets.

Wei HU, Chairman of CGCC, President and CEO of Bank of China U.S.A., highlighted Bank of China's role as a strategic partner of the CIIE in providing comprehensive financial service plans and all-round financial services for exhibitors. He encouraged American companies to seize the opportunity and deepen cooperation with China through the CIIE platform. Chairman HU emphasized that, as the largest non-profit organization representing Chinese enterprises in the US, CGCC has been, and always will be playing a pivotal role in strengthening bilateral trade ties, promoting mutual investment, and fostering a deeper understanding and trade between the world’s two largest economies by providing best services to its member companies.

Eric ZHENG, President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai, noted that at the 6th CIIE, the U.S. Department of Agriculture collaborated with the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai to organize nearly 20 companies, including U.S. local state governments, associations, exporters, and food manufacturers, to set up booths for the first time, sending a signal of benign openness for agricultural products and food trade between China and the United States.

At the CIIE, participating companies gain not only orders, markets, and creativity but also unlimited opportunities from China's modernization drive.

During her remarks, Vice President of Global Public Policy and Government Affairs at PepsiCo, Caroline Berson, stated that the CIIE brings together high-quality products and services from various countries, facilitating the creation of an all-round, multi-level, and wide-field international cooperation network.

PepsiCo has become one of the first signed exhibitors at the 7th CIIE, not only increasing its exhibition area but also hoping to establish in-depth partnerships with more partners through the CIIE to jointly address global challenges such as climate change, food system transformation and the plastic circular economy.

Executive Vice President of Enterprise Marketing and Chief Data Officer of The Estée Lauder Company, Jane Lauder, emphasized that  Estée Lauder not only attaches importance to innovation but also localized innovation, with Chinese consumers being the source of inspiration for its product innovation. The company hopes to develop products that are not only "In China, For China" but also "In China, For the world."  It is expected that more new products will enter the global market through the CIIE.

President of Dun & Bradstreet International, Neeraj Sahai, stated that as a global leading provider of business decision-making data and analysis, Dun & Bradstreet has been actively responding to China's development strategy.

The CIIE is a crucial platform for the company to launch innovative products and solutions in the Chinese market, providing innovative data-driven solutions for various industries in promoting the development of the digital economy, facilitating foreign trade, sustainability, and China's high-quality development. As China promotes high-level opening up, Dun & Bradstreet is full of confidence in China's future and will continue to invest in this strategic market through the CIIE platform.

During the promotion conference, Dun & Bradstreet, ACHR West Inc (Schrader's), Mevion Medical Systems, and Berkshire Blanket signed exhibition cooperation memorandums with the China International Import Expo Bureau for the 7th CIIE.

The event was hosted by Hallie Carmen, Marketing Manager of CGCC.

During the CIIE working group's promotion tour in the U.S., the CIIE was featured on the screens of New York's Times Square, welcoming American and global enterprises and products to share future development opportunities. The event was organized by the China International Import Expo Bureau, the Secretariat of the Hongqiao International Economic Forum, and National Exhibition and Convention Center (shanghai) , with support from the Chinese Consulate General in New York, CGCC, and the Bank of China New York Branch.
