
On May 30, China General Chamber of Commerce-USA (CGCC) hosted “Global Partnership & Global Innovation: China and Israel” at the Bank of China Building in New York. Eran Nitzan, Minister of Economic Affairs for the Israel Ministry of Finance at the Embassy of Israel in Washington, D.C., Shanqing Zhou, Economic and Commercial Counsellor of Consulate General of China in New York, Chen Xu, Chairman of CGCC and Chairman of Bank of China USA, as well as over 80 representatives from CGCC member companies attended the event.
The event began with opening remarks given by Minister Eran Nitzan. Mr. Nitzan highlighted that China and Israel have close economic and trade relations, especially in the tourism, infrastructure, trade and finance sectors. According to Mr. Nitzan, the volume of bilateral trade in goods between the two countries in 2017 has approached $10 billion, and China has become Israel’s second largest trading partner after the United States. China has accumulated over $6 billion in investment to Israel.
In his remarks, Counsellor Shanqing Zhou congratulated on the 70th anniversary of Israel Independence and long-term friendship between China and Israel business communities. He encouraged Chinese enterprises in the U.S. to make full use of their advantages, to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation with Israeli enterprises and to become a bridge and carrier of friendship between the two countries.
Uri Levin, President and CEO of IDB New York, Adiv Baruch, Chairman of the Israeli Export and International Cooperation Institute, and Alon Harnoy, Managing Partner of Shiboleth LLP delivered speeches respectively. They shared with the audience the observed industry focus of Chinese companies, the best investment practices for foreign companies, global partnership, and innovation, as well as the legal structures in Israel.
Many Chinese companies such as Bank of China, China Construction, COSCO, Fosun, Alibaba, Huawei, Xiaomi, Lenovo, Baidu, JD, CRRC are investing and doing business in Israel. As Chinese investments increase rapidly in Israel, the needs of mutual understanding also become urgent and necessary for mutual success.
