On April 3, China General Chamber of Commerce – USA (CGCC) hosted Closed-door Conversation with CGCC Business Executives at Lotte Palace Hotel in New York. Xu Chen, Chairman of CGCC, Chairman of Bank of China USA, Yuan Ning, Vice Chairman of CGCC, Chairman & President of China Construction America, Yao Chaoliang, CEO of Yuhuang Chemical USA, Doug FRIESEN, CEO of SANY Heavy Industry USA, Zach KAHN, Director of Government Relations for BYD Heavy Industries, Qiao Raymond, Managing Director & Chief Lending Officer of Bank of China USA, Wang Mingfeng, Executive Vice-President of COSCO Shipping (North America) and Howard Finkel, Vice-President of COSCO Shipping (North America) shared their business developing and localization stories in the US. 14 business executives from CGCC member companies and 33 media representatives from Bloomberg, Thomson Reuters, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Yahoo Finance, Xinhua News Agency, China Daily etc. attended the conversation.
This is the first face-to-face conversation events hosted by CGCC between Chinese companies in the US and media after President Trump’s trade tariffs and other penalties on China announced on March 22. During the conversation, business executives shared detailed information about their previous investments and further investment plans, local employment, facilities and community services.
As trade tensions rise between US and China, business executives called for keeping ‘cool head’ towards planned trade tariffs. The consensus is stopping misinterpreting or overinterpreting ‘trade war’ and don’t blame everything for tariffs. Tax policies or planned tariffs are not a total calculation but just some add-on value for their business decision making. All the business executives appealed for more commitment to localized community service and social responsibility programs.
All participants actively got involved in the conversation. Reporters from Bloomberg, Washington Post, Yahoo Finance and other media asked questions to business executives. This off-the-record conversation is meaningful to enhancing understanding between US and China business communities.
Special thanks to all the business executives and media friends. Their contributions enhanced mutual understanding between China and US business community.
