On May 2nd, representatives from the Department of Commerce of Yunnan Province visited China General Chamber of Commerce – U.S.A. (CGCC) and held a business symposium regarding the current state of Chinese investment and businesses in the United States as well as Chinese firms “going global”. Over 10 representatives from Bank of China, CITIC Group New York Office, Taiping-Starr Holdings, LLC, China Life U.S. Representative Office joined the discussion.

During the meeting, representatives from the Department of Commerce of Yunnan Province introduced the state-province cooperation mechanism established between Yunnan and New York in 2016. They also promoted the upcoming 5th South Asia Expo and the 5th China-Kunming Import and Export Fair as well as the Opening Ceremony of the Representative Office of Yunnan Commerce in the United States. Furthermore, the representatives presented the progress being made on establishing Yunnan as the “Ecological Civilization Vanguard”, the “Demonstration Area of National Unity”, and a pivot of China’s opening-up to South and Southeast Asia. They highlighted Yunnan’s import and export trade as well as the need to set up a representative office in the United States. With regard to import, Yunnan Province plans to import alternative energy technologies from the United States.
