In Chinese opera, it is often rare for a female performer to depict a leading male role as it is particularly difficult to successfully adjust the female vocal range to match a male's vocal range.
Throughout the show, NYCOS Youth Troupe member Zexin Li excelled in her portrayal of the leading male role, country magistrate “Chen Gong”. Li who has been practicing Chinese Opera for over 10 years, first trained for many years back in China, and later joined the NYCOS Youth Troupe as a leading performer.
At this event, CGCC members joined local community members in watching the show’s talented cast, spending a wonderful weekend afternoon enjoying this traditional Chinese art form.

CGCC Foundation extends great thanks to the New York Chinese Opera Society and the NYCOS Youth Troupe for their wonderful performance and to the CGCC members who attended the event.
CGCC Foundation looks forward to continuing to make active contributions to the communication and promotion of traditional Chinese art in the United States.
