Luis Fiallo, VP of China Telecom (Americas) Corporation spoke at The Inter-American Dialogue event “5G and the Evolution of Smart Cities in Latin America and the Caribbean.” The forum featured San Salvador Mayor Ernesto Muyshondt and other business leaders from the telecom and technology sectors. A wide range of government agencies, embassies, NGOs, non-profit organizations, research institutions and corporations were represented in the audience.
Fiallo highlighted the exciting prospect of 5G-enabled Smart Cities and the important role for network providers. He believed that other countries can draw lessons from China’s urgency-driven approach to Smart Cities, which focuses on projects that tackle real and complex problems. “In China”, he said, “Smart City is a necessity.”

Inter-American Dialogue is the leading US think-tank focusing on Latin America and the Caribbean, fostering prosperity and collaboration among countries in the Americas for almost 40 years. Its membership includes former presidents, ministers and leaders in business and the media. China Telecom (Americas) Corporation is one of its corporate members.
