
On July 2nd, China General Chamber of Commerce – Washington D.C. Chapter (CGCC-D.C.) in collaboration with China Telecom (Americas) Corporation, successfully held the Inaugural “China Telecom Cup” Basketball Championship in Washington, D.C.

Six teams participated in the tournament including CGCC-D.C. members China Telecom (Americas) Corporation, China Global Television Network (CGTN), Xinhua News, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Shanghai Media Group(SMG), and China Unicom (Americas). The teams also included individual players from China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Representative Office in the U.S.A (CCPIT), Tasly Pharmaceuticals North America and DC-Tech U.S.A.

The championship used half-court, three-on-three, format, featuring 6 group matches and 4 elimination matches. The intense games inspired passion and fighting spirit among players and audience members alike. After six hours of fierce competition, PricewaterhouseCoopers won the “China Telecom Cup” Basketball Championship, defeating China Unicom (Americas) in the final game. China Telecom (Americas) Corporation, survived a nail-biting over-time game against Shanghai Media Group (which included players from Tasly and CCPIT), clutching the third-place trophy.

Henry Sun, Vice-Chairman of CGCC-D.C., and the President of Tasly Pharmaceuticals North America, delivered the opening remarks, encouraging the players to do their best. He went on to express his hope that this basketball tournament will further deepen the friendship and cooperation among the members of the CGCC-D.C.
Luis E. Fiallo, Managing Director of China Telecom (Americas) Corporation, presented the awards and gave closing remarks. Fiallo mentioned that, not only does the “China Telecom Cup” enrich the recreational activities of CGCC-D.C., it promotes healthy and active living, and also strengthens the staff-level connections among member companies; he hopes more member companies will follow China Telecom (Americas) and co-host wonderful events (like this tournament) with CGCC-D.C. in the future.
