The U.S. premiere of the award-winning ballet performance, “The Butterfly Lovers (梁山伯與祝英台)”, by Hong Kong Ballet – one of Asia’s most celebrated cultural treasures – is coming to the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, New York City, this summer from August 22 to 24, 2025.
Under the visionary leadership of Artistic Director Septime Webre, Hong Kong Ballet will bring to New York a breathtaking reimagination of this timeless legend of eternal love that defies expectations. Choreographed by Hu Song Wei Ricky and Mai Jingwen, and featuring Academy Award-winning designer Tim Yip (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) for sets and costumes, this production is a masterpiece of artistry and innovation. With an original score by Tian Mi, performed live by the New York City Ballet Orchestra under Conductor Lio Kuokman, the Butterfly Lovers has been hailed by Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post as “a triumph of choreography” and had received six major awards at the Hong Kong Dance Awards 2025.
