CGCC Supports New York Forum 2012 As Strategic Partner

The New York Forum 2012 was held on Tuesday, May 22 at the New York Times building in New York City. Same as past two years, The New York Forum, the flagship event of Richard Attias & Associates produced in collaboration with The New York Times, continues as an annual invitation-only event that brings together chief executives, policy makers, thought leaders and academics to stimulate dialogue and action to confront current economic challenges and opportunities. Caijing Magazine, Partnership for New York City, and China Alliance partnered in this year’s event.

This year’s forum focused on two important topics: immigration and US - China opportunities. The day began with a breakfast session, where reporters from The New York Times reported back from the US campaign trail. Then, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, Ricardo B. Salinas and others announced the findings of a report on the global war for talent and how current U.S. immigration policy is putting the American economy at risk. They discussed creative immigration policies that are being adopted by countries across the world.
Larry Kantor, Managing Director and Head of Research of Barclays, Craig Mundie, Chief Research and Strategy Officer of Microsoft Corporation, Anne-Marie Slaughter, Politics and International Affairs Professor of Princeton University and Robert Wolf, Chairman of UBS Investment Bank Americas attended the following panel discussion and shared opinion on the keys to economic dynamism.
The afternoon US – China session named “Dancing with Giants” featured important speakers from China, including Li Ruogu, Chairman and President of the Export-Import Bank of China, Wang Boming, Chairman of SEEC Media Group, Zhang Yansheng, Secretary General of the Academic Committee, National Development and Reform Commission, Chen Zhiwu, Professor of Yale School of Management, Wang Shi, Chairman of China Vanke Group, Feng Lun, Chairman of Vantone Holdings Co., and Chen Dongsheng, Chairman and CEO of Taikang Life Insurance Co.
Together with other speakers from US including Fred P. Hochberg, Chairman and President, Export-Import Bank of the United States, Patrick Prevost, President and CEO of Cabot Corporation, Stephen S. Roach, Former Chairman of JPMorgan Chase Asia, and Stephen A. Orlins, President of National Committee on US-China Relations, the panels delivered exciting discussion on the opportunities and challenges happening between the two countries. In the end of the forum, Ambassador Sun Guoxiang, Consul General of China in New York gave the closing address.
