CGCC Professional Series Event: U.S. Employment Law
U.S.-China Employment Law Update: A New Look at Cultural and Legal Challenges Chinese Companies Face with Expatriate Employees in the U.S.
Breakfast Briefing - Wednesday September 17, 2014
Limited Seating, Register by September 12
Expatriates arriving from China to work in the United States face a world of differences – cultural, legal, and work-related. In this program, experts in U.S. and Chinese law, as well as experienced U.S. and Chinese professionals, will discuss the key challenges that Chinese employers face with expatriate employees and how they can best overcome them.
The program will highlight different attitudes toward employment; differing expectations regarding a “work-life” balance, on the one hand, versus a strong work ethic, and whether these necessarily conflict; differences in the “employment at will” versus contractual and statutory rights of employees in the United States and China; attitudes toward sexual harassment, the rights of disabled employees, and mandatory retirement because of age; and different styles in negotiating and socializing among employees in the two countries.
