CGCC Los Angeles Chapter Welcomes Vice President Xi Jingping

On the final leg of his five-day visit to the United States, Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping continued to emphasize the mutually beneficial nature of close relations between the US and China.
Vice President Xi spoke at the opening ceremony of the US-China Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum in Los Angeles on February 17 th. He championed the strengthening of US-China economic and trade ties, saying, “"There is a view which suggests that China is the winner and the United States the loser in bilateral economic and trade relations. Such a view does not square with facts… Both China and the United States are winners. This is a truly win-win situation."
Xi called for the continued development of the relationship between the two countries, and specifically made appeals to the United States to allow for more high-tech exports to China. He suggested the removal of such trade barriers could help rectify the trade imbalance between the China and the US.
US Commerce Secretary John Bryson also spoke, emphasizing hopes that the US will be able to increase exports to China and promoting direct investment in the US. He stated that the “bedrock” of the relationship between the two countries had to be based on “A level playing field. Balance in our economic and trade relationship. Leadership in ensuring strong and sustainable global growth.”

Also in attendance were California Governor Jerry Brown and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Vilaraigosa along with various other state and federal officials. Various announcements were made at the ceremony including an announcement by Governor Brown for a new trade and investment office in China and a venture between DreamWorks Animation SKG, China Media Capital and two other companies to launch a DreamWorks Studio in Shanghai. China General Chamber of Commerce’s Los Angeles Chapter helped to organize the ceremony and CGCC member China Shipping North America hosted Vice President Xi for a tour of their terminal at the Port of Los Angeles.
