On July 30, 2020, almost 100 attendees
joined the CGCC E-Connects webinar on the recently enacted Hong Kong Autonomy
Act (the “HKAA”) and related developments co-hosted with CGCC member firm Jones
Day.

The webinar convened a panel of experts
from Jones Day and Gray Robinson, moderated by Peter Reisman, Co-Chair of the
CGCC Government and Public Relations Committee and Managing Director and Chief
Communications Officer at Bank of China USA. The panelists addressed an array
of issues concerning the HKAA, including the backdrop of the legislation’s
passage, the current political environment and the upcoming presidential
election, the structure of the HKAA, the mechanics of its implementation, as
well as practical considerations for CGCC’s members.
Event Speakers Included:
- Lanier
Saperstein – Financial Markets Partner at Jones Day - Doyle
Bartlett – Washington, DC Managing Shareholder of Gray Robinson - Grayson
Yeargin – Government Regulations Partner at Jones Day - Lisa
Ledbetter – Financial Markets Partner at Jones Day
During the Q&A session, Mr. Reisman
and audience raised a number pertinent questions, with topics touching upon the
interplay between the HKAA and President Trump’s Executive Order issued on the
same day of signing of the HKAA, and the contingency plans that CGCC’s members
could put in place to mitigate exposures.
CGCC extends great appreciation to Jones Day and to all the panelists and participants.
