
US-China Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade (JCCT) in Chicago
From December 16-18, the 25th session of the US-China Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade (JCCT) took place in Chicago, Illinois. The JCCT has served as a forum for addressing trade issues and promoting business opportunities between the US and China since 1983. China General Chamber of Commerce – U.S.A. was proud to participate in the CEO investment roundtable as well as co-organize the JCCT reception and dinner event on the 17th.
U.S. Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker hosted the JCCT event in conjunction with U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman and Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yang. They were joined by U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack among numerous other U.S. representatives. Chinese participants included China’s Ambassador to the United States Cui Tiankai and representatives from the State Council and National Development and Reform Commission, among others.
CGCC Chairman Ning Yuan attended the event along with several other executives of CGCC member companies, including China State Construction Engineering Co. Chairman Yi Jun, Hainan Airlines Chairman Chen Feng, Wanxiang Group Chairman and Founder Lu Guanqiu, Greenland Group Company Chairman and President Zhang Yuliang, BYD Motors President Stella Li, and CEO of Bank of China USA Wu Shiqiang.
During the meeting, representatives from both countries discussed trade negotiations as well as options for boosting future cooperation potential.
“I am proud to represent CGCC at the JCCT event this year in Chicago, along with executives of several other CGCC member companies,” said CGCC Chairman Ning Yuan after the event. “While China and the U.S. have developed a strong trade relationship in the past several years, there is always more we can do to facilitate greater cooperation. The China-U.S. relationship is paramount to the success of the world economy as a whole, and I am proud to participate in the JCCT event that enables significant progress in that relationship.”
U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker commented, “The JCCT is the time and place for the U.S. and China to address issues of mutual concern so we can get more business done between our two countries.”
At the conclusion of the discussions, the United States announced key outcomes in the areas of agricultural market access, intellectual property rights protection, innovation policies, and competition law enforcement. CGCC was able to give all participants a copy of Chinese Enterprises in North America 2014, a newly published hardcover book by CGCC in conjunction with China Daily USA.
