The Tuxedo Club is one of the oldest and most prestigious country clubs in New York. The Club was established in 1886 when Pierre Lorillard IV created the suburb of Tuxedo Park, one of the first planned communities in the United States. The black tie evening dress known as the “tuxedo” was first worn at the Tuxedo Club by one of the original members who adopted it from fashion worn by the English King Edward VII. The Tuxedo Club’s facilities include two architecturally renowned clubhouses, a championship golf course, one of the few royal tennis courts in the United States, lawn tennis and platform tennis courts, a squash court, boathouse, fitness facility, swimming complex, and outdoor ice skating rink. The existing 18-hole golf course was designed by world renowned architect Robert Trent Jones, Sr. in 1956 and may be one of his finest. The par 71 course measures 6,800 yards from the back tees and is set in a lovely valley just outside the Village of Tuxedo Park.
