President Xi and President Trump concluded a successful and constructive discussion at the working dinner in Buenos Aires, on December 1st, 2018. It was announced that both leaders agreed to halt any introduction of new tariffs, begin negotiations and
actions to address trade imbalances, and work together to reach a consensus on trade, investment and technology related issues.
The China General Chamber of Commerce – USA (CGCC) welcomes the result of this highly anticipated meeting as it demonstrated each country’s willingness to cooperate and seek compromise for the benefit of both nations. The United States and China are the world’s two largest economies with yet different economic structures and comparative advantages. In the past four decades, companies from the US and China have achieved tremendous economic synergies and developed common interests, creating millions of jobs and economic growth across the globe. Today, the US-China relationship has become one of the most important bilateral relationships in the world. Peaceful cooperation plays a critical role in the prosperity and stability of the global economy. A robust bilateral economic relationship is of vital importance to CGCC’s member companies’ success in the US market, in addition to businesses and consumers on both sides of the Pacific. China has remained committed to opening its markets up to foreign investment and trade, and Chinese companies investing in the US continue to contribute to the growth of local US economies across the US.
While challenges still exist in reaching a final agreement, CGCC will continue to innovate and build more partnerships between the US and China and encourage more dialogue to advance compromise amongst policymakers at every level of government.
