NEW YORK, June 3rd, 2020 – China General Chamber of Commerce-USA and CGCC Foundation delivered 50,000 surgical masks to the Transport Workers Union Local 100 (TWU Local 100) headquarters in Brooklyn, to help protect New York City transit workers who continue to work around the clock during the COVID-19 pandemic.
XU Chen, Chairman of China General Chamber of Commerce-USA, President and CEO of Bank of China USA, and ZHANG Lanlan, CGCC Vice Chairman and Vice Chairman of CICC US Securities, Inc., represented CGCC and CGCC Foundation, helping to deliver the boxes of donated masks. Mr. Earl PHILLIPs, Secretary-Treasurer of TWU Local 100 received the donated masks on behalf of the union. Also in attendance to express gratitude to all transportation workers was Greg KAPLAR, Regional Sales Manager at Hikvision USA Inc., Mr. Raymond QIAO, Chief Lending Officer and Executive Vice President of Bank of China USA, and Mr. Peter J. REISMAN, Co-Chair of the CGCC Government & Public Relations Committee; Managing Director and CCO at Bank of China USA.
TWU Local 100 is a local (or chapter) of the Transport Workers Union of America, a union that represents transportation workers in bus and subway lines, and several airlines nationwide.
The Local primarily represents 41,000 workers in the New York City public transportation system and at some private bus lines serving the New York City metropolitan area.
CGCC and CGCC Foundation are sincerely grateful to all public transportation employees who continue to risk their lives throughout the pandemic. The chamber hopes that this donation of 50,000 masks will help to better protect these workers as they continue to transport frontline responders.
CGCC’s donation of 50,000 surgical masks to Transport Workers Union Local 100 is part of the chamber’s larger ongoing U.S. Medical Supply Donation and Information Sharing Effort which officially began back in early March.
As of June 3rd, CGCC and CGCC Foundation, together with its regional chapters and member companies, have donated 3,853,999 pieces of personal protective equipment to more than 50 hospitals and clinics, and more than 20 government agencies in 21 states across the U.S.
