On November 15, at the 22nd Gala Dinner held by The U.S.-China Policy Foundation in Washington DC, Ms. Stella Li, Board Director of CGCC and President of BYD Motors was honored “U.S.-China Business Leadership Award” for her accomplishments and contributions in China-U.S. exchanges, technological innovation and ecologically sustainable development.
With her unique insight and excellent leadership, Ms. Stella Li successfully led BYD to the U.S. electric bus market. In 2013, BYD launched its auto factory in Lancaster, California, and turned the “small town in the desert” into a vibrant “green auto city”.
BYD Company Ltd established its electric bus and battery factory in the U.S. in 2013, and its electric buses are sold across over 30 states in the U.S. The company’s U.S. branch has been localizing with all of its employees hired in the U.S. except for a number of core engineers from China. BYD’s Lancaster factory alone has over 500 local employees today.
Other honorees this year include the Honorable Max Baucus, former U.S. Ambassador to China; His Excellency Cui Tiankai, Chinese Ambassador to the U.S.; and Mr. Charlie Jiang, Vice Chairman of CGCC and Chairman and CEO of China-U.S. SkyClub. Every year, the U.S.-China Policy Foundation honors exceptional individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the promotion and studies of China-U.S. relations and has been broadly covered by major U.S. and Chinese media in the United States. Previous awardees include Ban Ki-moon, former United Nations Secretary-General, and Elaine L. Chao, U.S. Transport Secretary, etc.
CGCC congratulates Board Director Ms. Stella Li and Vice Chairman Mr. Charlie Jiang on winning the “U.S.-China Business Leadership Award” and wish them and BYD further success in the years ahead.
Founded in February 1995, BYD started out in the rechargeable battery business, and entered the automobile industry in 2003. In the meantime, it started operating in the renewable energy industry and ventured into the rail transit sector in March 2016. By November 2016, BYD had a staff of 220,000 employees in 30 industrial parks around the world, covering an area of approximately 18 million sq. m.
